HEALTHY AND HOLIDAY DO GO TOGETHER: HOW TO AVOID PACKING ON THE POUNDS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

The holidays are known for family, cheer, giving, and plenty of food and drink. For many, this usually leads to inevitable weight gain, but it does not have to. There are many different ways that you can enjoy the holidays with your friends and family and still avoid gaining a pound or two when you don’t want to. When you’re faced with constant parties, endless temptations, and extra calories galore, what are you supposed to do? Distract from the food, eat smaller portions, and never, ever arrive at a gathering hungry. Now, you might think it is rude to show up at a dinner party and have already eaten. Don’t worry. Just have a light snack before you go and drink some water so that you are not starving. You don’t have to tell anyone, just take smaller portions and try to make healthy choices.

What about desserts? Go ahead, and treat yourself! You are entitled to eat things that you enjoy. Just do it in smaller quantities. Don’t take a large piece of everything that you want to try. Start with a small piece of a couple of items, and then go back for more if you are still truly hungry. If there are any hors d’oeuvres available, hold yourself accountable by using a separate toothpick for each one, and then keeping them in your pocket so that you can track how many you’ve consumed. Another tip to avoid overeating is to avoid alcohol. Not only will the alcohol lower your inhibitions and make you lose focus, but it is full of empty calories as well. If you feel the need to carry a drink around, consider club soda or water instead.

The holiday focus should be on family and friends, and not the food. Everyone knows that a great holiday party is widely revered for the spread of delectable food items that are available, but if you spend your efforts focusing on your family and friends instead of the food, you’ll be less likely to overeat. One final tip: if you already have an exercise regimen in place or a healthy diet, don’t divert from it if you can help it. Indulging yourself in a controlled manner at parties and gatherings is fine if you make up for it with more exercise and less fatty food later on.

Online doctors and online medical consultations for weight problems often find that the start of weight gain is those few extra pounds gained during the holidays. Studies have shown that these ‘few pounds’ are rarely lost and can add up over the course of a person’s lifetime, greatly influencing the onset of adult obesity problems. Don’t get too worried. That slice of pie or extra helping of mashed potatoes isn’t going to turn you into an overweight, unhealthy person, so long as you use moderation and self-control. According to online doctor consultations, the next step in the process is exercise. After holiday parties or dinners, take a walk. If the weather isn’t perfect, try dancing or another activity that can help you to exercise and get your metabolism going so that you can burn the calories that you’ve consumed.
