These days, it is just way too easy to become overwhelmed and feel stressed. With family, work, and other obligations, oftentimes we may feel that our heads are spinning just trying to keep up. With this, here are five easy ways to manage the stress in your life. Start by taking a deep breath, and remembering that what is "small stuff" should stay just that - and what is most important is our health and our families.
.) Let go. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, practice makes perfect in this case. The next time you become agitated or angry at something that is trivial, say to yourself, "I am letting this go." Making a conscious effort to not become angry or upset will allow you to divert your negative energy into something more positive. Effective anger management is a major stress reducer.
.) Breathe slowly and deeply. Before you react to your next "stress-capade," take three deep breaths and very slowly release them. Incorporating deep breathing and/or meditation practices in your life is a great way to keep the calm.
.) Slow down the talking. Whenever you feel on edge, practice speaking more slowly than usual, which will allow you to think more clearly and react more reasonably to difficult situations. Notice that when you are stressed, you speak quicker and take quick, shallow breaths. Slowing down your speech will cause you to appear less anxious and more in control.
.) Work on time management. To start, choose one simple thing that you have been putting off (such as giving KoolDocs a call or cleaning out your desk), and do it immediately. Just taking care of one nagging item on your seemlessly neverending 'to-do' list can instantly improve your mood and give you a sense of accomplishment.
.) Eat well and drink plenty of water. Hunger and dehydration, even before you're aware of them, can cause aggressiveness and exacerbate feelings of anxiety and stress.
